Early diagnosis of kidney dysfunction protects your heart, blood vessels, and vital organs. Routine eGFR and hydration checks save kidneys.

Clinical Basis

Hydration targets vary greatly between healthy individuals, kidney stone formers, and patients with compromised renal function. Standard baseline requirement is 30–35 ml/kg body weight, adjusted for climate humidity and activity. For kidney stone prevention, the goal is to produce at least 2.5 litres of clear urine daily.

Reference Guidelines

  • General Health: Maintain 2.5–3.2 Litres daily. Keep urine pale straw-coloured throughout the day.
  • Kidney Stone Prevention: Target 3.0–3.5+ Litres daily spread evenly. Drink a glass before bedtime to prevent overnight urine concentration.
  • CKD Non-Dialysis: Drink to satisfy thirst, typically 1.5–2.0 Litres unless edema or swelling is noted. Always verify with your physician.
  • Dialysis Patients: Strict fluid restriction applies (typically 500–1000 ml + 24-hr urine output). Do not exceed prescribed interdialytic allowance.
