Every pregnancy is unique. Timely milestone tracking, blood pressure vigilance, and ultrasound scans ensure healthy mothers and safe deliveries.

Clinical Basis

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) guidelines define healthy pregnancy weight gain based on pre-pregnancy Body Mass Index (BMI). Gaining within recommended ranges lowers risks of gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, macrosomia, and low birth weight.

Reference Guidelines

  • Underweight (BMI < 18.5): Recommended total gain: 12.5–18 kg. Aim for steady ~0.5 kg/week during 2nd and 3rd trimesters.
  • Normal Weight (BMI 18.5–24.9): Recommended total gain: 11.5–16 kg. Typically 1–2 kg in first trimester, then ~0.4 kg/week thereafter.
  • Overweight (BMI 25.0–29.9): Recommended total gain: 7–11.5 kg. Controlled gain (~0.3 kg/week) reduces risk of gestational diabetes.
  • Obese (BMI ≥ 30.0): Recommended total gain: 5–9 kg. Structured nutrition guidance with obstetrician oversight recommended.
